Accessibility is one of our key services and very close to our heart. Our talented senior developer Ellie Davison is registered blind yet her knowledge and expertise has helped us specialise in this area and enabled us to create “talking” websites which read text to users. To that end, we donate our services to support Web projects helping those with little or no sight.
Our current sponsorship projects are:
• Camread, a long-established Cambridgeshire charity providing a reading service to blind and visually impaired residents
• EAST, the East Anglia Sailing Trust, which offers sailing opportunities for local people with disabilities, including those with little or no sight.
We are creating accessible, blind-friendly websites for both organisations using our own e-genius VIP, which we believe is the first blind-friendly website builder. This allows people with little or no sight to make their own commercial or personal website by using simple templates and free screen reading technology.
“With a talking website, people with sight problems can run their own business, find new media work or simply create an independent webspace for working or socialising. And that’s one way of empowering people with sight difficulties and bringing them back into the mainstream of society,” says Granite 5 MD Jill Davies.
