A day of sunshine, punting and laughter with Cambridge digital marketing agency Granite 5

After a busy first half of the year filled with exciting projects and new client wins, the Granite 5 team took some well-earned time out to enjoy a summer get-together in the heart of Cambridge. It was the perfect chance to step away from our desks, reconnect as a team, and spend time together in our favourite city. And what a brilliant day it turned out to be.

A summer day out for Cambridge WordPress specialists Granite 5

As a Cambridge-based digital marketing agency, we feel lucky to have such a beautiful and historic setting on our doorstep. With its blend of tradition, creativity and calm, Cambridge always offers something new to discover.

We kicked things off at 3pm with drinks at The Mill on Mill Lane, a relaxed riverside pub known for its buzzing atmosphere and great views of the river. With the sun shining and the water flowing gently past, it was an ideal setting to unwind and chat. Working in a hybrid setup means we don’t always get the chance to catch up in person, so spending time together face-to-face felt extra special. It was a reminder of how important real-world connection is, especially in a creative, collaborative environment like ours.

Punting the River Cam and discovering Cambridge’s famous bridges

At 4pm, it was time for a classic Cambridge experience of punting. We met our guide at Granta Place and climbed aboard our punt for a scenic trip along the River Cam. For many of us, it was a rare chance to view the city from the water and enjoy a slower pace. The gentle glide of the boat, the rhythmic push of the pole, and the soft splash of water made for a peaceful contrast to our usual digital routines.

As we floated along, our guide brought the route to life with entertaining facts and stories about the sights around us. First came the Mathematical Bridge at Queens’ College, a wooden bridge known for its precise geometric design and the myth that it was originally constructed without nails or bolts. We then passed King’s College Chapel, a stunning example of Gothic architecture and one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, standing tall behind the college’s manicured lawns.

From there, we floated under Clare Bridge, the oldest bridge in Cambridge, built in the 17th century and famous for its missing piece of decorative stonework on one of the balls. Further along we admired the Wren Library at Trinity College, an architectural gem designed by Sir Christopher Wren and home to historic manuscripts and treasures, including writings by Sir Isaac Newton.

The views continued to impress as we passed St John’s College and its Bridge of Sighs, a covered stone bridge reminiscent of the Venetian original. With its elegant arches and romantic name, it remains one of the most photographed sights in the city. Nearby, New Court and the surrounding college buildings reflected perfectly in the river, offering views that felt lifted from a postcard.

Wrapping up with dinner by the river

After our relaxing punt tour, we wrapped up the day with dinner at The Anchor on Silver Street. The riverside setting and relaxed vibe made it the perfect place to continue conversations over great food and drinks. From shared stories to future plans, it was a lovely way to end a memorable afternoon.

As a Cambridge-based digital marketing agency, we know the value of creativity, collaboration and community. This summer get-together really reinforced that.

Here’s to more sunny days, more creativity, and more opportunities to spend time together in the place we’re proud to call home.

If you’d like us to show you the sights and share the inspiration behind our work, get in touch. We’d love to welcome you to Cambridge and explore what great ideas we can create together.
