Link Building - Take 2

As we highlighted in previous articles, building strong inbound links to your website is key to boosting your search engine rankings and visibility.

How you do it is also important. You should add links gradually, rather than in one big push, otherwise it looks suspicious instead of a natural growth. Experts suggest adding 10-15 per cent of your overall incoming links per month.

Links worth developing

• Links from trusted, authoritative sites are a big vote of confidence in your site.

• Try to create diverse links from a good spread of sites.

• Create text links with keywords in the anchor text (the clickable, visible text in a hyperlink). This shows the search engines that the keywords are relevant to your site and can boost your link profile even if the links are not top quality.

Example 1
Say the page you’re linking to is optimised for “holiday cottages Cornwall”, you should create anchor text that makes use of these keywords. Such as: Discover more about our holiday cottages in Cornwall

Example 2
Granite 5 wants to be found for creative websites, so we would add the following code in our links creative websites.

Link Tips

• Post blogs or send content to sites you can submit articles to and get a link in return. Remember to add a keyword in your anchor text linking back to your website.

• Submit your sites to top directories such Yahoo Directory, Business.com, Best of the Web and Go Guides. These are paid for listings but could be a worthwhile investment as they are rated by the search engines.

• Find “niche” directories which specialise in your type of business. As well as being relevant and authoritative, your competitors are probably not using them!

Try this:

Type in the following searches and see what comes up!
“(your keyword) directory”
“(your keyword) directories”
“(your keyword) *directories”
“(your keyword) search engine(s)”
