Adding a listing
Put your company on Google’s UK map.
1. Visit Google’s home page www.google.co.uk
2. Click on the Maps link, top left of the search field box
3. Click the Put your business on Google Maps link
4. Set up an account with the local business centre
Claiming your listing
A new scam has emerged over the last few months, where “hijackers” take over unclaimed or unsecured listings and redirect traffic and enquiries.
The thieves direct the business to a new affiliate site and starts earning commissions from the listing.
Once you’ve added your business on Google Maps, you must verify that you represent the business. This involves a telephone call from Google, which will give you a special PIN number, or Google can send a message to your mobile or a postcard to your business with that number.
Once you have your PIN, enter it into your Local Business Centre listing. Don’t put off verification otherwise your listing and profits are at risk.
