Google has launched its Freshness Update affecting its web indexing system.

This recent update to Google’s web indexing system is all about delivering “fresh” search results – with the newest, most up to date content getting listing priority on the results pages.

Date-specific content is displaying – with visible time stamps showing at the beginning of the description as to how many days, hours or minutes old the content is.

While most of the content affected by the new ranking will be breaking news, hot topics, product launches or celebrity or sports stories, Freshness once again underlines how businesses need to be proactive in keeping content updated to keep ranking in the search results.

Our 3 Step Action Plan:

• Date-stamp all your news items, press releases and blog posts
Make sure you date all of the above content. Google will use the publication date from your content so use its recommended format: YYYY-MM-DD.

• Create fresh content as often as possible
Feed Google’s appetite for new content! Press releases and news items can be published easily and quickly. You might also create new web pages to detail new products or services from your business.

• Carry on Blogging & Tweeting
Daily blogs and tweets will be devoured by Google and seen as timely and fresh. If your business doesn’t have a blog yet, make it a priority and get posting on topics about your industry or business.
Don’t forget social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Google +1 and Stumble. Use them to get other people to comment, review, promote, endorse or like or your business, products and services – it’ll generate content for you and give your Freshness Factor a boost.
